General Washington used the home as his headquarters on four separate occasions. This was also Washington’s HQ during the trial of Major John Andre, who, in connection with ‘Bro.’ Benedict Arnold, conspired to betray the fortifications at West Point, NY. Andre was convicted of being a spy and was hung. The Grand Lodge of NY purchased the De Wint House on Nov 22, 1931, and has been responsible for the site for seventy five years.
